The Creative Power of a Floral Workshop: An Evening of Connection at 830 Brickell
Fall has officially arrived in Miami—or at least we decided it has.
Recently, I had the pleasure of hosting a make-your-own heirloom pumpkin and floral centerpiece workshop at 830 Brickell, bringing together tenants for an evening filled with light bites, drinks, conversation, creativity, and, of course, flowers.
But the best part of a workshop like this isn't actually the finished centerpiece.
It's watching someone realize they are capable of creating something beautiful themselves.
“There’s No Way I Can Do That.”
This is one of my favorite moments in any floral workshop.
Everyone starts by looking at the table of flowers, greenery, pumpkins, and supplies and thinking some version of:
“There is absolutely no way I can make that.”
And honestly? I love that reaction.
Because floral arranging is a lot like so many things we do in life. You start, and it doesn't necessarily look the way you imagined. It can feel awkward. You question whether you're doing it right. You look around at what everyone else is creating and wonder if you've somehow missed the secret.
But then you keep going.
You move a flower. You add greenery. You take something out. You try again.
And slowly, the arrangement starts to come together.
That's the moment I love most as a florist and workshop host.
Why Floral Workshops Are So Much More Than a Craft
When I design a corporate floral workshop or tenant experience, I'm not just thinking about what participants will take home.
I'm thinking about what happens while they're making it.
There is something uniquely powerful about putting people in a room where no one is expected to be an expert.
A floral workshop creates a vulnerable, low-pressure environment where someone can look at the person next to them and say:
“Wait… can I get your advice?”
Or:
“Does this look right?”
Or:
“What would you do here?”
Those small interactions create genuine connection.
For corporate teams, employees, clients, and building tenants, that's incredibly valuable. People aren't sitting around a conference table talking about work. They're standing beside each other with their hands in flowers, figuring something out together.
The conversation becomes more natural.
People laugh.
They ask questions.
They help each other.
And for a little while, everyone gets to step outside of their normal role.
The Psychology Behind Making Something With Your Hands
One of the reasons I love creative workshops for corporate teams and tenant communities is that they give people permission to get out of their heads and work with their hands.
We're constantly consuming information, answering emails, looking at screens, solving problems, and moving from one task to the next.
Creating something physical is different.
You have to slow down.
You have to look.
You have to make a decision.
And sometimes you have to be okay with making the wrong one.
That's where creativity starts.
I don't believe you have to consider yourself a “creative person” to enjoy floral design. In fact, some of my favorite workshop participants are the people who tell me before we begin that they aren't creative at all.
Because by the end of the evening, they're holding something they made themselves.
And they're usually pretty proud of it.
From “I Can't Do This” to “I Made This.”
For me, that transformation is the real purpose of a workshop.
At the beginning, someone may be looking at their empty pumpkin and thinking, “I have no idea where to start.”
By the end, they're stepping back and looking at a finished heirloom pumpkin floral centerpiece that they designed themselves.
That shift is bigger than flowers.
It's a tiny reminder that sometimes we underestimate ourselves before we've even started.
And once someone gets past that initial doubt, creativity has room to take over.
Why This Works for Employees, Clients & Tenants
A well-designed floral workshop can be a meaningful employee engagement activity, corporate team-building experience, client event, or tenant amenity.
The activity gives people something to do together, but the real value is the connection that happens around it.
For commercial buildings and property management teams, creative programming can also be a great way to create memorable tenant experiences in Miami. Instead of simply offering an event for tenants to attend, you're giving them an experience they actively participate in—and something tangible to take with them afterward.
For companies, it can create a relaxed environment for employees to connect outside of their everyday responsibilities.
For clients, it can turn a traditional gathering into something interactive and memorable.
And for friends or social groups, it is simply a fun excuse to get together and make something beautiful.
The Best Part? They Get to Take It With Them.
At the end of the workshop, everyone leaves with their own floral centerpiece.
Maybe it goes on their desk.
Maybe it becomes the centerpiece on their dining table.
Maybe they bring it home.
Or maybe they give it to a friend who is hosting dinner.
But they also leave with something else: a new skill and the confidence to try it again.
That's what I want people to experience when they attend one of my workshops.
Not just “That was fun.”
But:
“I actually made that.”
And maybe the next time they see a beautiful arrangement, they'll think, “I could probably make that.”
Creating Experiences, Not Just Arrangements
As a florist and marketing professional, I think a lot about the difference between simply hosting an event and creating an experience people remember.
The flowers are important.
The setting matters.
The food and drinks matter.
But the feeling people leave with matters most.
At 830 Brickell, we weren't just making heirloom pumpkin arrangements. We were creating an opportunity for people to slow down, meet someone new, ask for help, laugh at themselves, get creative, and walk away feeling a little more capable than when they arrived.
And that, to me, is what makes a great workshop.
It isn't about being an expert.
It's about giving yourself permission to begin.
