The Power of Small Gestures: Why Companies Are Investing in Employee Experiences

The workplace has changed. Over the last few years, many teams have gone from seeing each other every day in an office to working remotely, connecting mostly through screens and meetings. While remote work has created flexibility, many companies are realizing something important — people still need connection.

That is why more companies are investing in employee experiences. Not just as a perk, but as a way to bring people together, celebrate milestones, and create moments employees genuinely remember.

One of my favorite examples of this was when I was hired by the Microsoft Miami team to create a floral experience as part of their three-day welcome celebration into their brand-new Miami office.

The new 830 building marked an exciting milestone for Microsoft as they opened their first office in Miami. Their team had been working remotely, and this celebration was about welcoming everyone into a shared space and creating excitement around this new chapter.

I was brought in to create a simple floral activation — a small flower moment where employees could choose blooms and receive a three-stem bundled bouquet to take home.

What surprised me most was not just how much people loved the flowers, but how much joy such a simple gesture created.

As a small business owner, I walked into this experience knowing I was bringing flowers into a large corporate environment. I never expected such a small offering to create such a big reaction.

I remember hearing comments throughout the day like:

"It smells SO GOOD in here."

"Ah, how do I choose?"

"Wow, thank you for doing this."

"This was really nice."

People were smiling, stopping by, talking with coworkers, and taking a moment away from their busy day to enjoy something beautiful.

The bouquets were small — only three stems — but the gesture was anything but small.

What really touched me was seeing how this experience resonated with everyone. It was not just the women who enjoyed it. The guys were excited too. One employee came up and said, “I have three daughters. Can I just have three roses?”

That moment stayed with me.

Because flowers are not just about flowers. They are about the meaning behind them. They are about who someone is taking them home to, the memory they create, or the feeling they bring into someone's day.

Why Employee Experiences Matter

Company culture is built through moments. It is not only created through meetings, emails, or company values written on a wall — it is created through the experiences employees share.

A floral cart, flower bar, creative workshop, or interactive activation gives employees an opportunity to connect in a way that feels personal.

It creates conversations between coworkers, breaks up the routine of the workday, and reminds employees that they are valued.

Small Gestures Can Create Big Impact

Many companies assume creating meaningful employee experiences requires a large budget or an elaborate production.

But my experience with Microsoft reminded me that sometimes the smallest gestures have the greatest impact.

A beautiful flower.
A thoughtful moment.
A simple opportunity to choose something for yourself.

Those details can completely change how someone feels walking into a room.

For companies, employee experiences are an investment in people. They help create stronger connections, improve morale, and show employees that their company cares about their experience — not just their work.

Why Flowers Make the Perfect Corporate Experience

Flowers have a unique ability to transform a space and create emotion. They bring beauty, warmth, and a sense of celebration into everyday environments.

A floral experience is perfect for:

  • New office openings

  • Employee appreciation events

  • Company anniversaries

  • Wellness activations

  • Holiday celebrations

  • Team-building events

  • Client appreciation events

  • Brand launches

A flower bar or floral cart becomes more than an activity — it becomes a memory.

Why This Is What Inspires Me

This experience is exactly why I started Emily Wynn Florals.

As a small business owner, moments like this remind me why I love what I do. It is not just about creating beautiful arrangements. It is about creating feelings.

Seeing someone light up over a flower, watching coworkers connect, or knowing someone is taking a small bouquet home to their family — those are the moments that create purpose and passion.

At the end of the day, people may forget the details of an event, but they will always remember how you made them feel.

And sometimes, a three-stem bouquet can say more than you ever expected.
